A walk on the wild side

I took my usual 5-mile walk today. On the way up Vine Street I was mostly anticipating the mile-long section where I do my running. The wind was strong and threatened to steal my hat a few times. I didn’t do a lot of observation until my run was over and I started to cool … [Read more…]

Spring is coming

Yesterday was cold, and made me think how nice the spring will be. Cool, and even overcast weather is nice, but the freezing weather … I’m not a fan. I can’t wait for a trees to start budding and for birds to chatter everywhere.

The diet update

My calendar isn’t with me at the moment, so I can’t remember how many weeks I’ve been on maintenance. I’m sure it’s been at least six. So far so good. My weight has fluctuations of two or three pounds, but keeps coming to rest at about 233 lbs. That is a good thing. That evil … [Read more…]

The Blind Side – another awesome movie

What are the chances of watching two sports movies back to back, and loving both of them? Sandra Bullock put on one of her best performances, and it was just a quality production overall. During the summer I remember thinking how unappealing the movies are these days. I wondered where all the good stories had … [Read more…]

Forever Strong – excellent movie

It’s rare to see a movie where the moral message is allowed to come through unaltered, and undiluted. It’s about a rugby coach in Utah who has crafted a winning team with a stellar record. And, he puts personal integrity and service at the core of it. The story centers around a troubled teen (a … [Read more…]

Fun with the scroll saw – decorative panels

Scroll saws are great for making Christmas presents, especially when funds are at a bare minimum—assuming you already have a scroll saw. If you don’t, the The DeWalt DW788 20-Inch Scroll Saw is a great machine. It’s well made and easy to use, which can’t be said for the majority of scroll saws manufactured these … [Read more…]

The Visitor – good movie

My sister talked me into watching The Visitor. Some movies have titles that don’t make me want to watch them, so it’s good that she insisted. It’s a story about a college professor who is trapped in a dreary and meaningless life. Richard Jenkins, the lead actor, does an amazing job of conveying a wide … [Read more…]

The Thirteenth Tale

A few days ago I started “The Thirteenth Tale” by Diane Setterfield. So far, I like it. I’m about a sixth of the way through. Other than the recommendation from my friend I know nothing about the book, and have no expectations. That is how I prefer it. No spoilers. Sometimes I wish I could … [Read more…]

Mindy Gledhill

I got a Mindy Gledhill CD for Christmas a few years ago. That genre of music can sometimes nauseate me, but the CD ended up being really good. My music has been in a state of disarray after some iPod problems and reformatting hard drives. But I was sorting through it about a week ago. … [Read more…]

21 days to go on the low calorie

After 19 days I’ve lost my load weight plus 10 more. Just before my three loading days I was 253.8 lbs and today I was 243.8 lbs. Not too bad. I’m hoping to lose another 15 lbs over the next three weeks. I had hoped for more, but I’m trying to be realistic. It feels … [Read more…]
