Smelter Road Report – bicycle fun in Tooele Utah

It was another eventful ride to the NO TRESPASSING gate on Smelter Road. My top speed was 30.8mph, with a moving average of 12.5mph, and 9.62 total miles. The ride took about 46 minutes. Not bad. At least I can see that I’m getting better. The altitude change is about 400 feet. I would have thought it was more, but it is what it is.

I saw another guy on a bicycle a long way ahead of me on the steepest part of the hill. I could see he was struggling, as he would come to complete stops. I caught up to him at the top of that hill. He was fully stopped and breathing hard. He looked quite a bit younger. I just kept moving. I got to the gate, and turned around, and then passed the same guy on the way back. He must have taken a really long rest. Anyway, it made me feel good to know I’m not the slowest guy up that hill.

My quads burned again today, but I seemed to keep a more constant speed. The burn doesn’t stop me from peddling.

The chatter from my chain is annoying. I need to get something to lubricate it. I could put oil on it, but I don’t want to attract dust.
