This is a woodburning project inspired by a youtube video tutorial by Sue Walters. I loved the abstract pattern she created on her gourd, and wanted to try it myself. Dried gourds are apparently very difficult to find locally this time of year, so I opted for a different surface. Michael’s has inexpensive baltic birch plywood frames that turned out to be a great alternative.
Though I’m not new to creating art, this was my first time woodburning. My sister recently gave me quick tour of her woodburning equipment, which left me wanting to try it myself.
I use a Colwood Cub, along with 5 replaceable tips (B,C,E,J,S). I’ve been very pleased with the unit so far. Amazon carries another Colwood model that would also be excellent: Basic Woodburning Kit
