Cami will be here tonight!

If the flights cooperate, Cami will be here around midnight. I sure hope she can make it. Tomorrow I have the option of a day off since the rest of the office will be closed. If she misses her flight today, I will likely work, at least for part of the day. But, if she gets here, we will take tomorrow off and have some fun. Everything looks very different, so I wonder what she will think about all the green.

Update:
Cami made it on the flight to Chicago. It seemed like she wouldn’t and then she texted me to say she made it. In Chicago she had a better chance to get to Raleigh, but it still wasn’t guaranteed. She made it on that flight too. I’m just about to make the trip to the airport.

I went for another walk today. Same circuit. When I started I felt pretty good. I was talking to Paula and had a good conversation. Toward the end I started to feel congested. Since then my cold symptoms have flared up. It’s going to be a tough night for Cami as she gets to hear me snore and wheeze.

Motel water yuck

I got this nice little surprise a few days ago. The water tends to drain slowly in the tub so I got a good long look at the grossness. No wonder the water was tasting bad sometimes. The Brita filter pitcher was a very welcome addition to the fridge.

Nasty Motel Water

This was the day after a heavy rain, so I’m wondering if silt was in the water. It’s not a comforting thought. The water always has a strong smell of chlorine, so any living creatures weren’t likely to survive. At the same time, drinking dirt isn’t on my list of favorite things. Since then the water has been clear, but I’m still glad to have the filter. It gets rid of the chlorine taste which means I drink a lot more water.

A visit to Duke University

Cami and I took a drive to Durham yesterday. The weather was beautiful and we wanted to see something new. We set a course for Duke University and after driving around campus we found the Duke Chapel. It’s an impressive building and we have the pictures to prove it.

The door above was the first thing we saw when we started walking around the chapel grounds. It’s beautiful.

It was a great day for walking. The squirrels were all over the place.

Through thick and thin and rain and snow and ice

This morning I awoke to a pounding sound, similar to someone chopping wood. I looked out the window to find a woman pounding on the windows of her car with an ice scraper, trying to get the layer of ice off. The news had warned of ice, but I haven’t ever experienced anything quite like this. Everything was covered in a thin sheet of ice about a quarter of an inch thick:

I didn’t end up going to work. I checked my email from the motel room and got the message that the office was closed for today. Working from “home” was what most of us did, although I prefer the chair at work. My car is cleared of ice now, so if tomorrow looks better, I’ll be driving in.

Snow flurries in Raleigh

I don’t think that snow was in the forecast today, but it came anyway, at least for a few minutes. It didn’t last long. The real snow is supposed to come on Monday.

I haven’t left the motel yet today. I haven’t been feeling very well. Cami has a severe sore throat, and started taking antibiotics yesterday. Looks like a good chance I might get strep too. We both had colds during the Christmas holiday, but it seemed like we were getting over the symptoms. Then Cami’s throat starting hurting a lot. My only defense at this point is to sleep a lot.
